SCOOPER APPLICATION

We are a gelato & coffee shop, and we're looking for one or two scoopers to join our team for Spring, Summer and potentially into Fall/Winter.

About the ideal candidate:

  • Experience in food prep, preferably serving ice cream, frozen yogurt etc.

  • Drinks coffee and willing to learn to make espresso-based beverages

  • Self-motivated & takes initiative

  • Outgoing, gets along with anyone, can work independently & in small teams

  • Available Friday evening and/or Saturday evening

  • Can work about 10 to 15 hours a week, 2 to 3 shifts

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities will include:

  • Greet all customers with a smile; Make menu and flavor suggestions

  • Scoop gelato, make shakes and other drinks, prepare other gelato treats

  • Prepare espresso based beverages (lattes, flat whites, cortados, etc.)

  • Explain to customers what gelato is vs. ice cream (we will teach you)

  • Keep shop clean and organized, including washing lots of gelato tubs

  • Wipe counters, tables, windows; sweep/mop floors, clean bathroom (toilet, sink, etc.)

  • Operate Point of Sale and follow cash/card handling procedures

  • Follow health and safety guidelines for handling food as well as cleaning chemicals

  • Perform other tasks as needed/requested

Qualifications

  • Be 17 years or older

  • Be proactive, positive, friendly, and outgoing

  • Have a professional attitude, a willingness to work hard, and the ability to remain calm during busy periods

  • Can work at least 2 shifts a week; most shifts are during the evening and weekend      

  • Have a mobile phone + internet access (for shift scheduling)

Availability Requirement

  • Can work at least 1 evening shift mid-week and 1 evening shift on Friday or Saturday

  • Be available to work shifts that are 4 to 6 hours long

  • Must be available Friday evening and/or Saturday evening until 9:45pm (10:30pm in Summer)

  • Mid-week evening shifts end at 9:15/9:30 during school year.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to frequently lift 25 pounds regularly, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

  • Able to stand on your feet for long periods and work well with others in a small space

  • Able to bend and reach into gelato tub to scoop gelato repeatedly

Compensation

  • $7-8.00/hour + your share of pooled tips. You can expect to take home between $12 - $16/hour.

Probation Period

Employment is subject to a probation period of up to 8 shifts.
